It is estimated that most people—those of us leading an
ordinary sort of life—are likely to meet or be in conversation with around ten
thousand people over an average lifetime. 10,000! With some of these people
such as our family, friends, neighbours, colleagues and customers, we will have
many conversations. That adds up to a lot of communication!
The ways in which we listen to all those people, and any remark that we make, will have an effect upon them and have outcomes and consequences for those people, and for ourselves. Whether we are aware of this or not, we will be making some difference to our world whenever we do, or do not, listen well and each time we open our mouths to speak. What kind of a difference do you want to make? It seems obvious that the trick to being a consciously aware, smart human being is to always choose to make a positive difference! A simple and effective way to achieve this would through being a Smart Communicator! |

Kay Kay is a highly experienced and ethical communicator. She has just recently been turning her work and teaching into a written record, often in useful pamphlet form. However, this full size volume contains everything you need to both become a good listener yourself and recognise both constructive and destructive listening in others. The book is big, but easy to read and on point all the way through. Kay also uses coloured sections to enable easy referencing, which is really helpful (I wish other authors would follow this example)
As Kay so rightly says at the beginning of the book 'The majority of us no longer recognize the enormous value and importance of good, attentive listening'. Just look at any newspaper article on any day and you will recognise the truth of those words. We are going to struggle to survive as individuals or as a society unless we learn very quickly how to communicate effectively.
Learning how to listen must be the first step on this road - and no-one teaches this better than Kay.
